Partnering with the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation

When people shine their light, it makes other’s lights shine too. Through a collaboration with a very generous family, we are putting books in the hands of over 49,000 children across Texas. As a teacher I taught in low-income schools with children who were behind academically in reading and math. These children did not have the resources at home to have books or be read to from an early age. They started kindergarten already behind. When we were approached about this opportunity, we said absolutely, without a second thought. The inspire children through books is our goal and our dream.

The Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation’s goal is to improve lives through the power of literacy. Our goal as a children’s book publishing company, is to start that foundation in literacy from the youngest of ages. We want every child to have at home libraries and start kindergarten ready for success. By making more books accessible to them, they don’t have to depend on school to learn. They can start learning now. Studies show that the difference between reading to kids at home and not is more than a million words by kindergarten. Partnering with The Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation will help close those reading gaps in children across Texas.

Reading empowers children. The look on a child’s face when they can read their first sentence and then their first book lights up a room. They feel proud of themselves, competent to keep trying, they can persevere when words get more challenging, and are confident in themselves and their abilities. All children should have books accessible to them from the beginning of life. Having books at home they can call their very own.

With a passion for education, a heart for children, a love for reading, and a partnership with The Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, we are excited for the future of literacy in Texas.
